Penn State’s Pat Freiermuth was selected as winner of the Big Ten Kwalick-Clark Tight End of the Year.

Appearing in four games this season, Freiermuth had 23 receptions, 310 receiving yards and a touchdown.

He has not played since Nov. 14 because of an undisclosed injury.

The award is named in honor of former Penn State tight end Ted Kwalick and former Iowa tight end Dallas Clark.

A native of Merrimac, Mass., Friermuth also was named to the Big Ten’s first team as selected by coaches. He was the only Penn State offensive player to receive that honor.

Guard Mike Miranda and tackle Will Fries were selected to the second team. Wide receiver Jahan Dotson and center Michal Menet were recognized on the third team. Offensive lineman Rasheed Walker received honorable mention.

No Penn State offensive player was recognized for the Big Ten’s first team as selected by conference media. Freiermuth was named to the second team while Dotson, Menet and Walker were recognized with the third team. Fries received honorable mention.

Awards and recognition for the conference’s defensive players are scheduled to be announced Wednesday while special teams will be revealed Thursday.
