Penn State hockey superstar Gavin McKenna is facing a first-degree felony charge as well as three other charges following an alleged incident this past Saturday.
A Pennsylvania court docket filed Wednesday charges McKenna with aggravated assault for attempting to cause serious bodily injury or causing injury with extreme indifference.
McKenna is also charged with a second-degree misdemeanor for simple assault as well as two summary charges for harassment and disorderly conduct.
Arresting officer Lucas M. Sharer filed McKenna’s charges Saturday, the same day Penn State men’s hockey played its first-ever game at Beaver Stadium.
According to a report from Penn State student blog Onward State, McKenna and other members of the hockey team were at a downtown State College bar. McKenna’s alleged altercation with an unidentified individual left the latter with a broken jaw.
PennLive reached out for comment from Penn State, but the university did not immediately respond.
McKenna, 18, is widely viewed as the top prospect ahead of the NHL Draft. The Canadian has scored 11 goals with 21 assists for the Nittany Lions this season, including a tally in Saturday’s game.
McKenna’s case is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
