Penn State’s Jayson Oweh, Shaka Toney named to Big Ten first team

Penn State defensive linemen Jayson Oweh and Shaka Toney were named to the Big Ten’s first team as selected by the conference coaches Wednesday.

In eight games this season, Oweh had 38 tackles (20 solo, 18 assisted).

Toney appeared in eight games and had 25 tackles (19 solo, six assisted) as well as four sacks.

Defensive back Jaquan Brisker was named to the third team. Defensive backs Tariq Castro-Fields, Joey Porter Jr. and Lamont Wade; defensive linemen P.J. Mustipher and Antonio Shelton; and linebacker Brandon Smith received honorable mention.

Toney was the only Penn State defensive player to be named to the first team as selected by conference media. Oweh was named to the second team while Porter and Wade were recognized with the third team honors.

Brisker, Castro-Fields, Mustipher, Shelton and Smith received honorable mention.

The offensive team was announced Tuesday. Special teams are scheduled to be revealed Thursday.
