Penn State's Lamont Wade chosen for Thorpe watch list
Clairton’s Lamont Wade, a senior safety at Penn State, was named Monday to the Jim Thorpe Award watch list.
The award is given annually to college football’s top defensive back.
Wade was an All-Big Ten honorable mention choice by the coaches and media in 2019 while tying a Big Ten record with three forced fumbles against Ohio State.
He is one of six Penn State players on national watch lists in advance of the 2020 college football season, joining linebacker Micah Parsons (Bednarik, Butkus and Lott IMPACT), tight end Pat Freiermuth (Biletnikoff and Mackey), running backs Journey Brown and Noah Cain (Doak Walker) and quarterback Sean Clifford (O’Brien).
