Penn State’s Tyler Warren is officially the nation’s best tight end.
The Nittany Lion was awarded the John Mackey Award — which annually goes to college football’s top tight end — during Thursday night’s College Football Awards Show on ESPN.
Warren was a dynamic threat for the Nittany Lions all season, finishing the year with 1,062 receiving yards on 88 catches, along with six receiving touchdowns. He set program records for career receiving touchdowns by a tight end (17) and receiving yards and receptions in a season for a tight end.
Warren contributed on the ground and in the air as well, carrying the ball 23 times for 191 yards and four touchdowns and completing 3 of 5 passing attempts for 35 yards and another score.
Warren was the primary target for the Penn State offense all season, helping the team go 11-2 and make an appearance in the Big Ten title game. He and the rest of the Nittany Lions will look to continue the season Dec. 21 when they take on SMU in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
A win there would give PSU a berth into the quarterfinals and a matchup with Boise State.
