The latest news out of the Saint Vincent men’s lacrosse program is twofold.

Peter Tulk is retiring as coach, and his replacement is former Bearcats standout Zach Wilfong, who played for him from 2008-11.

Tulk is the winningest coach in program history with a record of 140-122 across two stints that covered 19 years.

“My time at Saint Vincent has been great,” Tulk said in a news release. “I love coaching and I am certainly going to miss it. I enjoyed every part of coaching the lacrosse program, hence why I came back for a second stint. I just think it’s time to get some new, young blood to lead the program.”

A former high school coach at Mt. Lebanon and Franklin Regional, Tulk led SVC to a PAC title in 2014 and the ORLC finals in ’17 and ’18.

He will stay on staff with the college’s small business development center. Tulk has faith Wilfong will keep the program moving forward.

“I have a very good relationship with Zach and he was one of the best players in our program’s history,” Tulk said. “I am excited for him and the program for the foreseeable future. I will still be on campus and if he ever needs any support, I will be there for him.”

Wilfong most recently served as coach at La Roche.

“I look forward to joining the Saint Vincent community,” Wilfong said. “My mission at SVC will be to foster amazing relationships, uphold our student-athletes to the highest standards and compete for Presidents’ Athletic Conference championships.”

Wilfong also was a club coach at Pitt in 2019 and coached at Seton Hill in 2017-18. He was an assistant at Ohio Northern in 2016.

As a player, he scored 201 points, fifth in school history — 81 goals and 120 assists. He was the first player from SVC to play in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III North-South All-Star Game, in 2011.
