A slow start to the fourth round ended Peters Township grad Connor Schmidt’s run at the 118th Western Amateur on Thursday at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.

The Venetia native and Drexel senior couldn’t overcome his slow start — 4-over-par after five holes — during the afternoon round, finished with a 4-over 76 missed the cut to the final 16 for match play by two shots.

In the third round in the morning, Schmidt shot 2-under 70.

He had six birdies in the third round and three birdies in the fourth round. His four-round total was 2-over 290.
