Peters Township's Schmidt 3 back at Western Amateur
Connor Schmidt opened the Western Amateur in good fashion on Tuesday.
The Peters Township grad and Drexel senior shot a 1-under par 71 during Round 1 of the tournament at Crooked Stick Country Club in Carmel, Ind., and is three shots behind five players.
Schmidt’s round included four birdies and three bogeys.
He finished fourth on Friday at Sunnehanna Amateur. He cared his first hole-in-one during his final round of the tournament.
Franklin Regional 2019 grad and Notre Dame sophomore Palmer Jackson had a rollercoaster day. He shot a 5-over par 77. His round included two birdies and an eagle. However, he finished up with consecutive double bogeys. He was 6-over on his final five holes.
He’s tied for 119th in the 156-player field.
Perry, Patricio advance
Sam Perry shot a 6-under par 65 during the final round to capture the Tri-State PGA Assistant Pro Club Championship at Shannopin Country Club.
The assistant at Pikewood Golf Club in Morgantown, W.Va., finished at 6-under, one shot better than Allegheny Country Club assistant pro Alex Patricio, who shot a 1-under during the final round and finished at 5-under.
Perry and Patricio advance to the PGA Assistants Championship in November.
Gunnar Riley, Brendan King and Talon Knebel finished as alternates.
Dr. Charles Cuden Memorial Junior
The annual Dr. Charles Cuden Memorial Junior Tournament was held at Green Oaks Country Club. It is part of the Tri-State PGA Isaly’s Junior Tour.

Girls (16-18): 1. Natalie Brosig (Erie) 77; 2. Victoria Witouski (Gibsonia) 77; 3. Lindsey Powanda (Mt. Lebanon) 78.
Girls (11-15): 1. Marissa Malosh (South Fayette) 70; 2. Alexandra Petrochko (Hermitage) 74; T3. Anna McElligott (Pittsburgh) and Briannon Miller (Avonmore) 86.
