Pine-Richland's Grant Carrigan hopes to fill Pitt's void at tight end

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi celebrates with Taysir Mack after Mack’s second-quarter touchdown against Louisville Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020 at Heinz Field.

Pitt tight ends Lucas Krull and Kyi Wright were out with undisclosed injuries against Louisville, which opened opportunities for junior Grant Carrigan of Pine-Richland and others.

Coach Pat Narduzzi wasn’t impressed by everyone, but he was encouraged by what Carrigan, a former offensive lineman, showed him.

“We just had mental errors there. Grant Carrigan didn’t have any. He had a winning performance,” the coach said.

“Grant is tough and has gotten a lot better. He’s become a better blocker because of that offensive line work that he’s had.

“I saw some busts. I saw some mistakes. We had more mental errors in the tight end room than we had in the entire offensive line.”

Narduzzi said he had no new information on the injured players. Krull and middle linebacker Wendell Davis are not listed on the depth chart, an indication they might not play this week.
