Pirates add Dovydas Neverauskas, Rookie Davis to bullpen, place Chris Stratton on IL
The Pittsburgh Pirates added two right-handed pitchers to their staff Saturday afternoon. In 78 combined career MLB innings, the pair has a 7.50 ERA.
Dovydas Neverauskas was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis, and the contract of Rookie Davis was selected from the Triple-A Indians. Neverauskas allowed seven earned runs in 12⁄3 innings over three appearances for the Pirates earlier this season. Davis hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2017.
The moves were necessitated, in part, by the MLB-high 21st placement on the injured list by the Pirates. Right-hander Chris Stratton left Friday night’s 10-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers because of right side discomfort.
Michael Feliz left that game in the first inning but not before being charged with five runs while retiring just one batter. He was optioned to Indianapolis on Saturday.

To clear space on the 40-man roster for Davis, the Pirates transferred Lonnie Chisenhall from the 10-day to the 60-day disabled list.
Chisenhall (right finger fracture, left calf strain) has not appeared in an MLB game since signing a $2.75 million contract with the Pirates in November. His injured status combined with the emergence and strong play of outfielders Bryan Reynolds and Melky Cabrera signify Chisenhall might not play in a regular-season game for the Pirates.

In 52 games for the Pirates since 2017, Neverauskas has a 7.00 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. Despite the three rough MLB outings in April, Neverauskas has been dominant in Triple-A: 21 strikeouts, three walks, nine hits and three runs allowed in 132⁄3 innings over 11 games.
Davis went 1-3 with an 8.63 ERA and 2.17 WHIP in seven games (six starts) for the Cincinnati Reds two years ago. He is 1-3 with a 5.35 ERA in seven starts for Indianapolis this season.
