Edward Olivares batted .263 with 12 home runs and 36 RBIs in 107 games for the Royals last season.

The Pittsburgh Pirates added to their outfield depth by acquiring Edward Olivares on Friday from the Kansas City Royals for minor league outfielder Deivis Nadal, per a report by Anne Rogers of MLB.com.

The right-handed hitting Olivares batted .263/.317/.452 with 23 doubles, four triples, 12 home runs and 36 RBIs in 107 games for the Royals last season, playing mostly right field (54 games) and designated hitter (42).

Olivares, 27, of Venezuela, has a career .261/.310/.426 slash line in 230 games over four seasons, including 13 games with the San Diego Padres in 2020 before he was traded to Kansas City for reliever Trevor Rosenthal.

It was the second trade for an outfielder by the Pirates in as many days. On Thursday, they acquired Billy McKinney from the New York Yankees for international signing bonus pool space.

Nadal, a 21-year-old Dominican, is a converted second baseman who batted .212 with 15 doubles, eight homers and 39 RBIs in 101 games for Low-A Bradenton last season.

The Pirates also officially announced the signing of first baseman Rowdy Tellez to a one-year contract. The deal is for $3.2 million, with incentives that could make it worth $4 million.

To make room for Tellez on the 40-man roster, the Pirates designated right-handed reliever Roddery Munoz for assignment. Munoz was claimed off waivers from the Washington Nationals on Dec. 1.

The Pirates’ 40-man roster is now full.
