Pirates reliever Dauri Moreta pitches during the seventh inning against the Mets on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at PNC Park.

The Pittsburgh Pirates made three roster moves Friday ahead of their game in Milwaukee, two of which featured the promotions of recent pitching acquisitions.

Left-hander Bailey Falter was added to the major league taxi squad, and righty Andre Jackson was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Reliever Dauri Moreta (4-2, 4.10 ERA) was placed on the 15-day injured list with low back inflammation.

The Pirates received Falter from Philadelphia in exchange for infielder Rodolfo Castro earlier this week.

The 26-year-old Falter made eight appearances, seven of which were starts, this year with the Phillies, going 0-7 with a 5.13 ERA.

His last outing with the Phillies came May 15 against San Francisco. At the time of his trade to Pittsburgh, Falter was playing with Philadelphia’s Triple-A affiliate, Lehigh Valley.

Falter was drafted by the Phillies in 2015 and made his big-league debut in 2021.

While he has struggled this season, Falter showed promise in 2022, when he went 6-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 20 games (16 starts), recording 74 strikeouts and 17 walks over 84 innings.

Assigned to Indianapolis on Thursday, Falter did not make any appearances for the Indians before the Pirates called him up.

In 50 career major-league outings (24 starts), he is 8-12 with a 4.56 ERA.

Like Falter, Jackson is a pitcher who showed flashes in the past but has lost his touch lately.

The 27-year-old was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers at the end of June in exchange for cash considerations.

Jackson made a handful of appearances with the Dodgers in 2021 and 2022. He pitched 39 innings and 14 games across 2021-23, going 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA.

After recording a 2.31 ERA in 2021 over three games along with a 1.86 ERA last year through four bullpen appearances, Jackson regressed in 2023.

He compiled a 6.62 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in seven games this season. However, he did strike out 16 compared to only three walks in his 17 2/3 innings.

Upon his trade to the Pirates, Jackson was assigned to Indianapolis, where he demonstrated some improvement through five games, three of which were starts.

With the Indians, Jackson posted a 3.38 ERA in 10 2/3 innings, striking out 13 with six walks.
