Pitcher Colin Selby is the Pirates’ 27th-ranked prospect according to Baseball America.

The Pittsburgh Pirates shook up their bullpen Tuesday, adding right-handers Thomas Hatch and Colin Selby and optioning Yerry De Los Santos and Osvaldo Bido to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Hatch, 28, who was claimed off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, was added to the active roster. He made six relief appearances for Toronto this season, posting a 4.26 ERA and 2.37 WHIP with 10 strikeouts and five walks in 6 1/3 innings, but he spent most of the season at Triple-A Buffalo.

“Like the changeup , like the breaking ball,” Pirates manager Derek Shelton said. “A guy that can pitch multi-innings, has pitched the big leagues before, so we kind of liked the arsenal. So, we’ll just add him to our bullpen.”

The 25-year-old Selby, a 2018 sixth-round pick out of Randolph-Macon College, is the ranked the Pirates’ No. 27 prospect by Baseball America. Selby posted a 3.86 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with six saves while recording 41 strikeouts and 22 walks in 30 1/3 innings over 28 appearances.

“He’s been good. He’s a guy that we wanted to get up here,” Shelton said. “We know the arm’s big, we know how the slider plays. … It’s another arm that we really like. I think we’ve talked about opportunities of seeing guys up here, and it’s his opportunity right now and excited to get a look at him.”

Bido was 2-2 with a 5.35 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 37 innings over 10 games, including eight starts, for the Pirates this season. He tossed three perfect innings before giving up four runs in the fourth in Monday’s 7-6 win over the Atlanta Braves at PNC Park . De Los Santos was 1-1 with a 3.33 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 24 1/3 innings over 22 appearances, allowing one run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning against Atlanta.

“The situation with Bido and De Los Santos, it’s one of those things where we needed arms and they were the guys that had been pitched the most,” Shelton said. “So, sometimes when that happens, it’s a situation where you get optioned. We needed two arms, and they ended up being the two guys. But they’ve both done a really good job for us while they were here.”
