Pirates announce new managers at Triple-A, Double-A, reveal minor-league staff
The Pittsburgh Pirates announced 2025 staff assignments for their full-season minor-league affiliates, Florida Complex League and Dominican Summer League clubs Friday morning.
Taking over as manager of the Indianapolis Indians is Chris Truby, who will oversee the Triple-A club after serving as bench coach under Miguel Perez in 2024.
Perez this offseason was promoted to the big-league staff as bullpen coach.
Truby, 51, becomes the 63rd manager in Indians history.
He enters his sixth season of coaching in the Pirates organization and 19th in total.
An Indians alum as a player, Truby was a undrafted free-agent signing by the Houston Astros in 1992 and made his MLB debut in 2000, playing professionally until 2007.
He brings five seasons’ worth of managing experience, all within the Philadelphia Phillies farm system (2009-13), during which time he compiled a 292-264 (.525) record.
Pitching coaches Drew Benes and Cibney Bello, bullpen coach Joe Thatcher and hitting coach Eric Munson return to the Indianapolis staff.
Eric Patterson was announced as Truby’s replacement as bench coach.
At Double-A Altoona, the Pirates parted ways with manager Robbie Hammock after one year.
Hammock led the Curve to a 33-36 record in the Eastern League and is replaced by Andy Fox.
Fox spent the last three years as a coach with the Boston Red Sox and, from 2011-21, was the club’s infield coordinator.
The 54-year-old enjoyed a nine-year MLB career from 1996-2004 as a utility infielder, winning World Series rings with the New York Yankees in 1996 and Florida Marlins in 2003.
Bench coach Gary Green is the only holdover from last year’s Curve staff.
Fox’s new staff in Altoona will include pitching coach Matt Ford plus hitting coaches Scott Seabol and Casey Harms.
At High-A Greensboro and Low-A Bradenton, the Pirates return their managers from last year: Blake Butler and Jim Horner, respectively.
Jose Mendez returns as manager of the FCL Pirates, while Jose Mosquera and Joel Fuentes will oversee the DSL Black and Gold squads.
