After a meeting Friday morning among MLB officials and the Major League Players Association, Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman’s suspension was reduced from two games to one. He served the suspension Friday night when the Pirates played the Boston Red Sox at PNC Park.
Chapman was ejected from the Pirates’ game against the New York Mets at Citi Field on Monday after he argued with home plate umpire Edwin Moscoso and was ejected.
Pirates manager Derek Shelton declined to reveal what Chapman said to Moscoso during the argument, but a team spokesman said the suspension stemmed from Chapman throwing the baseball behind him toward the pitcher’s mound.
Chapman, 36, signed a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the Pirates in the offseason. In his 15th season, he has appeared in nine games, with a 4.76 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, one save and an 0-1 record.
