Pirates right fielder Bryan Reynolds rounds the bases after hitting a three-run triple against the Marlins on June 9 at PNC Park.

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds left Tuesday night’s road game against the Detroit Tigers in the second inning because his wife went into labor with the couple’s third child.

Reynolds struck out in the first inning then was replaced by Alexander Canario in right field. Canario went 1 for 3 with a two-run single. The Pirates lost, 7-3.

The Pirates are expected to put Reynolds on the paternity list. After the game, manager Don Kelly said he expects Reynolds to be back with the team for a home series with the Texas Rangers that starts on Friday.

“That’s what I would think, given the timing,” Kelly told the Associated Press.

Reynolds and his wife, Blair, have two sons, Reese, 4, and Brooks, 2.

Reynolds, 30, is hitting .223 with eight home runs and a team-leading 39 RBIs this season. He’s slumping, hitting .157 with one homer and 17 strikeouts in 15 games in June.
