The Pirates added some left-handed relief help in the form of Wei-Chung Wang off waivers from the Oakland Athletics.
Wang, 27, is originally from Taiwan and in 20 relief appearances with Oakland this year posted a 1-0 record and 3.33 ERA in 17 innings. He held left-handed batters to a .186 average (8 for 43).
In 19 appearances with Triple-A Las Vegas, he had a 1-1 record, one save and a 4.78 ERA. To make room for Wang on the 40-man roster, the Pirates transferred Gregory Polanco from the 10-day IL to the 60-day I.L.
Wang, who was originally signed as a free agent by the Pirates in October 2011 and later was a 2013 Rule 5 Draft selection by Milwaukee, made his MLB debut with the Brewers in 2014. He appeared in eight games in 2017. Wang is projected to join the Pirates on Tuesday.
