Pittsburgh Pirates manager Derek Shelton and reliever Angel Perdomo were suspended by MLB on Wednesday after their ejections from Tuesday’s game at the San Diego Padres.

Perdomo was suspended three games for intentionally throwing at and hitting Manny Machado during the seventh inning of the Pirates’ 5-1 loss.

Perdomo also was fined an undisclosed amount. Shelton was suspended one game, which he will serve Wednesday, and also fined.

Immediately before hitting Machado, Perdomo gave up a towering home run to Juan Soto, who took his time rounding the bases.

Perdomo proceeded to hit Machado in the back with a 98 mph fastball, which, after an on-field review by the umpires, led to the ejection.

Shelton argued the call and was ejected. It was his 11th ejection in four seasons with the Pirates.

Bench coach Don Kelly is expected to manage the Pirates for Wednesday’s series finale against the Padres.
