Pirates farm report for April 16, 2024: Nick Gonzales racks up 4 more hits in Indy win

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 7-9) outslugged St. Paul (Twins), 10-6. 2B Nick Gonzales (.397) went 4 for 5 with a double and a triple. DH Canaan Smith-Njigba (.286) went 3 for 3 with a walk, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. CH Ji Hwan Bae (.500) went 2 for 4 with a double, and RBI and two runs scored. 1B Billy McKinney (.261) was 2 for 5 with two RBIs. LHP Eric Lauer (3.21) started and allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits in 3.2 innings. LHP Brady Feigl (1-1, 4.05) gave up two runs on three hits in 2.1 innings to earn the win. RHP JC Flowers (9.45), RHP Fineas Del Bonta-Smith (0.00) and RHP Brent Honeywell (4.50) each threw a scoreless inning.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 4-5) was drilled by Bowie (Orioles), 10-4. RHP Po-Yu Chen (9.39) started and was touched up for four runs on seven hits, including a homer, in 4.1 innings. RHP Grant Ford (0-1, 7.71) and RHP Brad Case (3.86) each gave up three runs in relief appearances. SS Tsung-Che Cheng (.273) went 3 for 3 with a walk and his first homer, a two-run shot. C Abrahan Gutierrez (.333) and CF Jase Bowen (.162) each went 1 for 4 with an RBI.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 6-4) lost 5-4 to Hickory (Rangers) in 10 innings. RHP Brandon Bidois (0-1, 2.25) gave up a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th for his first loss of the year. RHP Alessandro Ercolani (2.25) started and went four innings, allowing two runs on four hits, one walk and three strikeouts. RHP Drake Fellows (1.59) yielded one run on two hits, walked two and struck out six in three innings of relief. CF Hudson Head (.143) went 1 for 2 with a home run, his third, a walk and a strikeout. DH Josiah Sightler (.138) was 1 for 2 with an RBI double. RF Rodolfo Nolasco (.138) was 1 for 4 with a walk and scored on an errant throw on a sac bunt by Head. 3B Maikol Escotto (.333) hit a game-tying single in the ninth. LF Lonnie White Jr. (.263) went 1 for 5 with a single and a strikeout and SS Termarr Johnson (.121) was 0 for 3 with a walk, a ground out and two strikeouts.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 1-9) fell to Daytona (Reds), 5-2. RHP Carlos Jimenez (3.86) started and went three shutout innings, allowing two hits and one walk and fanned five. RHP Luigi Hernandez (0-1, 7.71) threw 2.1 innings of relief and allowed a hit, two runs and three walks and struck out two and got saddled with the loss. LHP Hunter Furtado (20.25) then went 1.2 innings, allowing three runs on two hits, including a grand slam (two of those runs charged to Hernandez). LHP Magdiel Cotto (1.13) tossed two scoreless innings and struck out three. CF Shalin Polanco (.200) went 1 for 4 with an RBI double and a run scored. RF Jack Herman (.171) was 1 for 4 with an RBI single and 1B Esmerlyn Valdez (.258) was 0 for 3 with a walk, a run scored and a pair of strikeouts.
