Pirates farm report for April 7, 2023: Tucupita Marcano swinging hot bat for Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 3-4) ran its winning streak to three with a 5-3 win over Louisville (Reds). SS Tucupita Marcano (.500) went 3 for 5 with three doubles and three runs scored. C Endy Rodriguez (.211) was 2 for 4 with an RBI. CF Travis Swaggerty (.276) went 1 for 5 with a double. 2B Chris Owings (.200) went 2 for 4 with a double. LHP Caleb Smith (9.64) started and went 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with two walks. RHP JC Flowers (1-0, 9.00) worked a scoreless sixth to earn the win. RHP John O’Reilly (0.00) pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to pick up his first save.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 0-1) lost its second straight to start the season, falling 7-2 to New Hampshire (Blue Jays). RHP Justin Meis (0-1, 3.00) of Bethel Park started and went three innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk. He fanned three. The bullpen gave up four runs. 3B Andres Alvarez (.333) went 2 for 3 with a double. RF Josh Palacios (.400) went 2 for 5 with a run scored. CF Matt Gorski (.250) went 0 for 5 with four strikeouts.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 0-1) was clobbered by Hudson Valley (Yankees), 8-1, in its season opener. LHP Anthony Solometo started and threw four mostly effective innings, allowing one run on two hits and a walk, striking out five. The bullpen allowed seven runs. RF Jase Bowen went 3 for 4 with a double. LF Luke Brown went 1 for 3 with a double. 1B Ernny Ordonez went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 1-0) beat Clearwater (Phillies) in its season opener, 3-2. RHP Thomas Harrington started and worked five scoreless innings, giving up four hits and no walks while striking out seven. RHP Owen Kellington gave up two runs in a three-inning relief stint. LHP Julian Bosnic threw a scoreless ninth for his first save. 2B Jesus Castillo and 3B Jack Brannigan each had two hits and scored a run.
