Pirates farm report for Aug. 27, 2023: Grant Koch’s 3 hits lift Indy to victory

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 59-65) edged Iowa (Cubs), 2-1. C Grant Koch (.268) was 3 for 4 and had a two-run single in the second inning. SS Nick Gonzales (.268) hit two doubles. RF Canaan Smith-Njigba (.252) was 2 for 3 with two walks. 1B Malcolm Nunez (.246) and 2B/3B Jared Triolo (.293) also had hits. LHP Jared Jones (3-3, 5.46) picked up the win after allowing one run on two hits with four walks and 10 strikeouts in six innings. RHP Hunter Stratton (4.14) earned his sixth save after a clean inning of relief.

Next: Tuesday at Buffalo (Blue Jays), 7:05 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 56-61) dropped a 9-2 decision to Rome (Braves). DH Jacob Gonzalez (.227) knocked in a run. SS Tsung-Che Cheng (.277) hit his ninth double of the season. CF Chavez Young (.211) was 1 for 5 in the leadoff spot. RHP Nick Dombkowski (5-5, 3.69) allowed five runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings and took the loss.

Next: Tuesday at Erie (Tigers), 6:05 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 63-54) lost 6-5 to Rome (Braves). CF Luke Brown (.255) was 3 for 4 with three RBIs, including a two-run homer. 1B Josiah Sightler (.260) also had an RBI. DH Tres Gonzalez (.282) was 1 for 5. C Shawn Ross (.194) had the only other hit for the Grasshoppers. LHP Joshua Loeschorn (5.68) started and allowed three runs on four hits with a walk and six strikeouts in three innings. RHP Cy Nielson (4-4, 4.30) took the loss after giving up two runs on no hits with a strikeout in 2/3 innings of relief.

Next: Tuesday vs. Hickory (Rangers), 6:30 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 67-52) lost 6-5 to Jupiter (Marlins). C Omar Alfonzo (.248) was 2 for 5 with two RBIs. CF Lonnie White Jr. (.254) was 1 for 5 with an RBI. 2B Charles McAdoo (.354) and RF Deivis Nadal (.212) each knocked in a run. LHP Luis Peralta (5.07) started and gave up a run on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts in three innings. RHP Patrick Reilly (1-1, 8.10) took the loss after giving up two runs on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts in an inning of relief.
