He walked one and struck out five. RHP Eddy Yean (2.79), RHP Chase Shugart (0.00) and LHP Evan Sisk (3.62) combined to throw 4⅓ scoreless innings of relief, allowing a total of two hits. LF Ronny Simon (.310) went 2 for 4 with a run scored. 1B Nick Solak (.359) went 1 for 3 with a walk and an RBI. RF Jase Bowen (.571) went 2 for 4 with his first Triple-A stolen base.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 51-54) lost 3-2 to Hartford (Rockies) in 10 innings. RF Esmerlyn Valdez (.244) went 2 for 3 with two walks and his first Double-A homer. 3B Duce Gourson (.202) went 1 for 3 with two walks and his second homer. Both home runs came in the bottom of the ninth to erase a 2-0 deficit and force extra innings. DH Nick Cimillo (.221) went 1 for 5 with a double and his fourth stolen base. RHP Wilber Dotel (4.59) started and went six innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. LHP Tyler Samaniego (3.52) followed with two scoreless innings. RHP Ryan Harbin (1-1, 3.38) allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits in two innings to take the loss.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 75-30) clobbered Asheville (Astros), 9-0. SS Konnor Griffin (.321) went 1 for 4 with a two-run homer, his 16th. 1B Jared Jones (.500), the Pirates’ ninth-round pick from LSU in this year’s draft, went 2 for 4 with a double and home run in his pro debut. DH Callan Moss (.407) went 2 for 4 with a two-run homer, his first with Greensboro. 2B Keiner Delgado (.243) went 0 for 2 with two walks, two stolen bases and two runs scored. LHP Connor Wietgrefe (5-3, 3.72) started and pitched six scoreless, allowing six hits and a walk with four strikeouts. RHP Jake Shirk (2.57) followed with two scoreless innings. LHP Julian Bosnic (3.32) worked a scoreless ninth.
