Pirates farm report for July 18, 2023: Luis Ortiz roughed up in Indianapolis loss
INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 42-48) was dispatched by Iowa (Cubs), 7-3. RHP Luis Ortiz (4.08) started and was tagged for six runs on eight hits, including two homers, in 4.1 innings. He walked four and struck out two. LHP Jose Hernandez (3.38) threw 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. RHP Wil Crowe (3.86) allowed one unearned run on one hit and struck out two in 1.1 innings. 3B Vinny Capra (.277) went 2 for 4 with his second homer, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. LF Canaan Smith-Njigba (.251) went 1 for 3 with a double, a walk and his ninth stolen base. DH Aaron Shackelford (.233) went 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored. 2B Rodolfo Castro (.000) went 0 for 3 with a sacrifice fly and three strikeouts.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 40-41) used seven pitchers to shut out Reading (Phillies), 4-0. RHP Justin Meis (4-3, 6.08) of Bethel Park gave up one hit in two innings and struck out three to earn the win. RHP Now Toribio (4.09) also pitched two scoreless innings. RHP Braxton Ashcraft (0.00), RHP Sean Sullivan (4.10), RHP Grant Ford (1.80), LHP Tyler Samaniego (5.63) and RHP Oliver Garcia (4.80) each threw a scoreless frame. 3B Domingo Leyba (.341) went 3 for 4 with a two-run homer, his third. RF Matt Gorski (.243) went 1 for 4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. 2B Jackson Glenn (.300) went 2 for 5 with a run scored and CF Chavez Young (.203) went 2 for 4 with a run scored.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 41-41) blanked Wilmington (Nationals), 12-0. The Grasshoppers outhit the Blue Rocks, 13-4. RHP Bubba Chandler (4-3, 6.22) started and went 5.2 innings, allowing three hits and three walks and striking out eight. RHP Eddy Yean (5.97), LHP Mitchell Miller (7.63) and RHP Logan Hofmann (12.27) each threw a scoreless inning. LF Tres Gonzalez (.286) went 3 for 4 with two walks, two runs scored and three RBIs. RF Sammy Siani (.226) went 2 for 6 with a triple and three RBIs. 1B Will Mathiessen (.240) went 2 for 6 with a double and two RBIs. 2b Maikol Escotto (.206) wrnt 1 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. C Wyatt Hendrie (.228) went 2 for 4 and scored twice.

RHP Derek Diamond (8-3, 3.98) started and went seven innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with five strikeouts. RHP Elijah Birdsong (3.90) pitched a scoreless ninth for his fifth save.
