Pirates farm report for July 22, 2023: Indy, Cody Bolton lose on walk-off homer

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 44-50) lost 5-3 to Iowa (Cubs) on a two-out, three-run walk-off homer by Edwin Rios in the bottom of the ninth. RHP Cody Bolton (1-4, 3.62) gave up the decisive homer. RHP Jared Jones (5.08) started and went four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks. He struck out four. RHP Travis MacGregor (1.96) worked three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk. CF Josh Palacios (.400) went 2 for 4 with his sixth home run. C Grant Koch (.229) went 2 for 3 with a two-run homer, his fourth. DH Chris Owings wore the golden sombrero, going 0 for 4 with four strikeouts.

Next: Sunday at Iowa (Cubs), 2:08 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 40-45) fell to Reading (Phillies), 3-1. 3B Jackson Glenn (.277) went 3 for 4 with a double and his first home run. DH Abrahan Gutierrez (.238) went 2 for 4 with a walk. RHP Sean Sullivan (2-3, 4.25) started and allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in two innings. RHP Justin Meis (5.74) of Bethel Park (5.74) pitched three scoreless innings, allowing no hits and one walk and striking out six. RHP Tahnaj Thomas (6.20) threw two scoreless frames and LHP Tyler Samaniego (5.45) worked a scoreless ninth.

Next: Sunday vs. Reading (Phillies), 6 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 43-43) was edged out by Wilmington (Nationals), 2-1. RHP Po-Yu Chen (4-6, 4.10) started and went seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits, including a homer. He walked one and struck out seven. RHP Jaycob Deese (5.21) pitched a scoreless eighth. RF Sammy Siani (.231) went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. CF Jase Bowen (.262) went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Next: Sunday at Wilmington (Nationals), 1:05 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 51-37) was tripped up by Fort Myers (Twins), 3-2. LHP Julian Bosnic (3.79) gave up a two-run homer in the ninth to take the loss. The Marauders were held to four hits. 3B Yordany De Los Santos (.205) went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored. CF Lonnie White Jr. (.257) and SS Jesus Castillo (.226) each went 1 for 3 with an RBI. LHP Dominic Perachi (4.31) started and went six innings, allowing one run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. LHP Yoldin De La Paz (5.40) pitched a scoreless seventh.
