Pirates farm report for June 11, 2021: Oneil Cruz hits 7th homer in Altoona loss

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 16-17) was held to three hits and was blown out, 14-1, by Nashville (Brewers). LF Anthony Alford went 1 for 3 to up his average to .260. 3B Hunter Owen singled and scored a run. RHP Cody Ponce started and was touched up for five runs, all earned, on three hits and two walks in 2.2 innings.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 20-12) lost 7-5 to Akron (Indians). SS Oneil Cruz hit a tape-measure three-run home run, his seventh. He’s hitting .286 with a. 908 OPS. LF Canaan Smith-Njigba went 2 for 4, hit his third home run and stole his fifth base. 2B Rodolfo Castro went 2 for 4 with a double. He’s hitting .317. RHP Noe Toribio started and gave up four runs, three earned, on six hits in 5.2 innings. LHP Cam Vieaux gave up a three-run home run.

Next: Saturday vs. Akron (Indians), doubleheader, 4 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High A, 18-16) split a doubleheader with Hickory (Rangers). The Grasshoppers won a makeup game, 11-3. CF Matthew Fraizer, the leadoff hitter, went 3 for 5 with a three-run home run, his sixth. He’s hitting .333 with a .966 OPS. SS Liover Peguero went 3 for 4 with a walk and three runs scored and stole his seventh base. He’s hitting .282. RF Lolo Sanchez went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. 3B Jared Triolo also went 3 for 4. LHP Omar Cruz was the winner, giving up three runs on four hits in five innings.

Hickory won the regularly scheduled game, 6-4. RHP Tahnaj Thomas took the loss, giving up six runs, four earned, on six hits and four walks in 2.2 innings. LF Chase Murray went 2 for 3 with his first home run and three runs scored. CF Matt Gorski, hitting leadoff, went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs.

BRADENTON (Low A, 22-12) scored two in the bottom of the ninth to beat Daytona (Reds), 6-5. SS Dariel Lopez and C Eli Wilson had RBI singles in the ninth. OF Sammy Siani went 2 for 5 and hit his third home run. 1B Alexander Mojica went 1 for 3 with his fourth home run. 2B Jase Bowen, DH Ernny Ordonez, and 3B Yoyner Fajardo had two hits apiece. RHP Logan Hofmann earned the win with four scoreless innings out of the bullpen. He gave up one hit and one walk and struck out nine. A fifth-round pick last June, Hofmann is 3-0 with a 1.27 ERA.
