Pirates farm report for June 5, 2021: Phillip Evans doubles twice on rehab assignment

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 15-13) beat Columbus (Indians), 3-2. 1B Phillip Evans went 2 for 4 with two doubles as he continued his rehab assignment as he recovers from a hamstring injury. 3B Hunter Owen went 2 for 4 with a home run, his second, and three runs scored. C Joe Hudson drove in the winning run when he walked with the bases loaded in the eighth inning. RHP Cody Ponce started and allowed two runs on four hits in five innings, fanning seven. The bullpen pitched four scoreless innings. RHP Matt Eckelman threw two of them. RHP Geoff Hartlieb pitched the eighth and got the win. RHP Jandel Gustave worked the ninth for his fourth save.

Next: Sunday vs. Columbus (Indians), 1:35 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 18-10) routed Richmond (Giants) 11-2, pounding out 18 hits. 3B Rodolfo Castro went 4 for 6 with two home runs, his fourth and fifth, and four RBIs. 2B Ji-hwan Bae also went 4 for 6, doubling twice and driving in a pair. SS Oneil Cruz went 1 for 6 with three strikeouts, but he extended his hitting streak to 10 games. RF Cal Mitchell went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles. CF Daniel Amaral went 2 for 5 with a home run, his second. RHP Osvaldo Bido started and went 5.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Next: Sunday at Richmond (Giants), 1:05 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 14-15) drilled Winston-Salem (White Sox), 7-2. LF Matthew Fraizer went 2 for 4 with his fifth home run and his fifth stolen base. He’s hitting .306. DH Jesus Valdez and C Grant Koch also homered. RF Fabricio Macias went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. LHP Omar Cruz started and went five innings, allowing two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts. RHP J.C. Flowers pitched four scoreless innings of relief, giving up two hits and fanning four.

Next: Sunday vs. Winston-Salem (White Sox), 2 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 19-10) spanked Dunedin (Blue Jays), 11-1. 2B Jase Bowen went 2 for 5 with his sixth home run and scored three runs. C Endy Rodriguez went 2 for 5 with two RBIs. RF Sammy Siani went 0 for 2 but walked three times and scored twice. CF Hudson Head went 1 for 4 with an RBI and a walk. LHP Brayan Roman pitched three innings of relief to earn the win, allowing one hit and whiffing four.
