Pirates farm report for May 2, 2023: Tres Gonzalez homers in 1st game with Greensboro

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 10-16) and Toledo (Tigers) were rained out. The game will be made up as apart of a doubleheader Wednesday.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 10-10) lost to Richmond (Giants), 6-2. RHP Kyle Nicolas (1-3, 5.32) surrendered five runs on eight hits, including a homer, in five innings. He fanned 10. LHP Nick Dombkowski (1.64) and RHP Cameron Junker (4.50) each pitched a scoreless inning of relief. LF Lolo Sanchez (.228) went 3 for 4 with two doubles and stole a base. SS Liover Peguero (.242) went 1 for 3 with a double, two walks and three stolen bases, giving him nine for the year. C Henry Davis (.283) went 2 for 5 with three strikeouts. CF Matt Gorski (.176) was 2 for 4.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 14-8) gave up four runs in the bottom of the ninth to lose to Winston-Salem (White Sox), 8-7. RHP Jack Carey (1-1, 8.44) started the ninth and gave up fours runs on three hits, recording one out. RHP Bubba Chandler (4.03) started and went 5.1 innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits and three walks. He struck out four. LF Tres Gonzalez (.500) went 2 for 4 with a two-run homer in his first game since being promoted from Bradenton. 1B Will Matthiessen (.200) went 1 for 4 with his second homer. SS Tsung-Che Cheng (.292) went 2 for 3 with two doubles. CF Hudson Head (.258) went 3 for 4 with a double and two triples.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 14-8) beat Tampa (Rays), 5-3, despite managing just three hits. DH Shalin Polanco (.196) went 1 for 3 with his first homer, a two-run shot. 2B Termarr Johnson (.222) went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI. CF Rodolfo Nolasco (.196) went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. The Marauders walked seven times. LHP Dominic Perachi (1-0, 2.87) pitched five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk and striking out six. LHP Julian Bosnic (0.90) pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief and RHP Mike Walsh pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save.
