Pirates farm report for May 4, 2023: Quinn Priester dazzles for Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 12-17) beat Toledo (Tigers) 5-2. RHP Quinn Priester (2-3, 5.96) threw six shutout innings and allowed just two hits while striking out four. RHP Eli Villalobos (11.57) did not record an out in the eighth and allowed two runs on two hits and walked two. RHP Colin Selby (4.09) allowed no hits, walked one and struck out a batter in a shutout ninth for the save. 2B Aaron Shackelford (.273) was a triple short of the cycle on the night as he and LF Cal Mitchell (.226) hit back-to-back home runs in the second. DH Canaan Smith-Njigba (.154) went 1 for 5 with a double and newly acquired Vinny Capra (.194) was 1 for 4 with a sacrifice fly.

Next: Friday at Toledo (Tigers), 7:05 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 12-10) picked up a second straight win with a 6-3 victory over Richmond (Giants). DH Jacob Gonzalez (.271) smashed a two-run home run, his second. SS Liover Peguero (.267) went 2 for 4 with two singles. C Henry Davis (.284) walked, was hit by a pitch, singled and scored a run. RF Matt Frazier (.273) walked and had a bunt single. Starter RHP Sean Sullivan (1.72) allowed three runs on four hits, three walks and a home run in four innings. RHP Oliver Garcia (2-0, 3.38) tossed two shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out three for the win. LHP Braeden Ogle (7.36) walked two in a shutout ninth for his first save.

Next: Friday at Richmond (Giants), 6:35 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 15-9) took care of Winston-Salem (White Sox), 6-4. SS Tsung-Che Cheng (.289) went 1 for 4 with a triple, a walk and a run scored. LF Hudson Head (.271) went 2 for 4 with an RBI. RF Luke Brown (.189) went 1 for 2 with a walk and a pair of RBIs. RHP Braxton Ashcraft (4.09) started and went three innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks. LHP Mitchell Miller (5.19) and RHP Dante Mendoza (1-0, 6.35) each pitched two scoreless innings and RHP Eddy Yean (3.86) and RHP Jack Carey (7.11) both pitched a scoreless inning.

Next: Friday at Winston-Salem (White Sox), 7 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 15-9) avoided a late Tampa (Rays) rally for a 7-6 win. RF Rodolfo Nolasco (.276) hit an inside-the-park home run in the third, his first of the year. CF Shalin Polanco (.189) clubbed a two-run home run, his second. 3B Jared Triolo (.286) singled, hit a ground-rule double and had an RBI in another rehab start. RHP Alessandro Ercolani (1-2, 6.75) went five innings and allowed two runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out two for the win. RHP Yunior Thibo (3.48) gave up two runs on two hits and struck out two in an inning of work. RHP Elijah Birdsong (1.80) tossed 1.2 innings and allowed two runs to score on four hits.
