Pirates farm report for Sept. 1, 2023: Carter Bins belts homer in Altoona win
INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 59-69) lost 8-5 to Buffalo (Blue Jays). RHP John O’Reilly (3-6, 5.08) started and gave up six runs, five earned, on six hits in 3.2 innings to take the loss. 3B Malcom Nunez (.251) went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. RF Canaan Smith-Njigba (.250) went 1 for 3 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a walk. 1B Jared Triolo (.295) went 1 for 3 with a double, two runs scored and a walk. DH Aaron Shackelford (.232) went 1 for 3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 58-63) beat Erie (Tigers), 6-3, in No. 1 pick Paul Skenes’ second Double-A start. Skenes (13.50) started and pitched two innings, allowing one single and striking out three. RHP Sean Sullivan (6-4, 4.25) relieved him and went 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and earning the win. RHP Tahnaj Thomas (4.89) pitched a scoreless inning and LHP Geronimo Franzua (6.62) got the final two outs for his first save. C Carter Bins (.224) went 2 for 4 with a three-run homer, his third. DH Matt Gorski (.244) went 2 for 2 with two doubles, two runs scored and two walks. 3B Joe Perez (.367) went 2 for 3 and scored twice.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 64-57) fell 10-8 to Hickory (Rangers). RHP Po-Yu Chen (5-8, 4.28) started and allowed four runs on six hits, including two homers, in three innings to take the loss. RHP Eddy Yean (4.91) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, LHP Julian Bosnic (6.75) threw two scoreless innings, and RHP Valentin Linarez (4.76) worked a scoreless ninth. LF Tres Gonzalez (.286) went 3 for 6 with two RBIs and a run scored. RF Hudson Head (.241) went 3 for 5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. SS Jack Brannigan (.302) went 2 for 4 with a double and a pair of RBIs.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 69-52) swept a doubleheader from Palm Beach (Cardinals).
In the first game, a 2-1 Bradenton win, three pitchers combined on a one-hitter. PH Deivis Nadal (.215) hit a walk-off pinch-hit homer in the bottom of the seventh. LHP Hunter Barco (4.50) started and pitched four scoreless, allowing one hit, walking none and striking out seven. RHP Hung-Leng Change (8.85) pitched a scoreless fifth. RHP Luigi Hernandez (2-0, 3.52) worked the final two innings, walking two and allowing a run but giving up no hits. Bradenton scored both its runs on solo homers. LF Rodolfo Nolasco (.216) went 1 for 2 with his 17th homer and a walk.
In the second game, a 4-2 Marauders victory, LF Charles McAdoo (.338) went 1 for 3 with a two-run homer, his fourth. 1B Esmerlyn Valdez (.167) went 1 for 3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. RHP Wilber Dotel (7-2, 2.89) started and went five innings, allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts. RHP Brandan Bidois (2.33) got the final out for his fifth save.
