Pirates farm report for Sept. 2, 2022: Travis Swaggerty drives in a pair for Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 65-60) defeated Louisville (Reds), 8-7. Indianapolis pounced early with five runs in the first inning. 2B Ji-hwan Bae (.301) had an RBI single, RF Travis Swaggerty (.258) knocked in a run with a triple and LF Blake Sabol (.300) smashed a three-run homer, his first, and ended the day 1 for 3. Swaggerty grabbed another RBI with a single in the fifth and finished 2 for 5. 3B Hoy Park (.225) went 3 for 5 with two doubles and DH Mason Martin (.214) went 0 for 3 with a walk. RHP Luis Ortiz (9.00) went four innings and gave up six runs, four earned, on four hits and struck out three. RHP Noe Toribio (4-2, 5.91) allowed one run on three hits and struck out four in two innings to earn the win. RHP Travis MacGregor (7.71) struck out five in two shutout innings and allowed no hits. LHP Eric Stout (3.00) went one inning, struck out two, allowed two hits and got the save.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 61-62) was always chasing Akron (Guardians) but faded away in an 8-4 loss. Akron jumped to an early 1-0 lead, but had it erased by C Endy Rodriguez’s (.361) eighth home run. After the Rubber Ducks made it 5-1 in the top of the fourth, 1B Aaron Shackelford (.250) hit a two-run home run, his 25th, with Rodriguez on base and LF Connor Scott (.243) drove in a run with a double. The Curve bats could not plate any more runs as Akron scored late in the game to pull away. Starter RHP Kyle Nicholas (1-4, 4.17) gave up four runs on three hits and struck out three in 2.2 innings for the loss. LHP Omar Cruz (5.40) kept Akron’s bats silent in 2.1 innings, allowing only one run on two hits. RHP Bear Bellomy (7.16) allowed two runs on four hits in his 2.2 innings and RHP Tahnaj Thomas (2.98) allowed one run in the ninth.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 55-66) scored early and added insurance late to beat Winston-Salem (White Sox), 7-1. SS Mike Jarvis (.198) scored on a throwing error in the first and drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the second. DH Jacob Gonzalez (.288) went 1 for 3 and hit an RBI single in the first while 2B Jackson Glenn (.218) doubled in a run in the second. 3B Ernny Ordonez (.212) clubbed a two-run single in the fifth and 1B Abrahan Gutierrez (.259) doubled in a run in the sixth. Starter RHP Valentin Linarez (2.35) threw three no-hit innings, walked three and struck out three. RHP Domingo Gonzalez (9-3, 5.06) went four innings, struck out five and allowed one run on three hits for the win. LHP Mitchell Miller (0.00) threw two shutout innings, allowed no hits and struck out three while walking five.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 64-59) mustered little offense in a loss to Fort Myers (Twins) 4-0. 2B Termarr Johnson (.348), DH Juan Jerez (.216) and CF Sergio Campana (.207) each hit a single, the only three hits the Marauders had all night. LHP Luis Peralta (0-7, 6.55) went 3.2 innings and allowed four runs on three hits, walked five and struck out two to take the loss. The bullpen gave Bradenton a chance to come back starting with 1.1 shutout innings from LHP Jake Sweeney (3.53), who also struck out three. Then RHP Yunior Thibo (4.59) and LHP Cy Nielson (8.10) each went two innings, and each allowed no hits and no runs, but the Marauder bats could not solve the Fort Myers pitchers.
