Velasquez, a distant relative of Roberto Clemente, was playing his first game with Indianapolis. A 26-year-old veteran of 194 MLB games, Velasquez was released by the Royals in May. C Rafael Flores (.265) went 2 for 4 with a two-run homer, his sixth in Triple-A. 3B Alika Williams (.272) went 1 for 5 with his ninth homer. RHP Jarod Bayless (3.95) started and went 4 ⅔ innings, allowing one run on three hits, including a homer. He walked one and struck out one. RHP Brandan Bidois (1-0, 0.00) pitched 1⅓ scoreless innings to earn the win. RHP Ryan Harbin (5.14) threw a scoreless ninth for his first save.
