Pirates have 5 players in MLB Pipeline's top 100 prospects list, including LHP Anthony Solometo
The Pittsburgh Pirates have five players in MLB Pipeline’s updated top 100 prospect rankings, including a newcomer to the list.
Double-A Altoona pitcher Anthony Solometo, a 20-year-old left-hander who was a second-round pick in 2021, made his debut at No. 100 when the MLB Pipeline rankings were released Monday.
The highest-ranked Pirates prospect, at No. 30, is Low-A Bradenton second baseman Termarr Johnson. The 19-year-old Johnson, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, dropped four spots from January’s preseason rankings.
One spot behind Johnson is Pirates catcher/outfielder Henry Davis, the first overall pick of the 2021 MLB Draft who made his major-league debut June 19. Davis moved up 26 spots from the preseason.
Triple-A Indianapolis catcher/infielder/outfielder Endy Rodriguez, 23, also cracked the top 50, coming in at No. 39 after earning Pirates minor-league player of the year honors last season. Rodriguez, who was selected to the All-Star Futures Game on Monday, moved up 16 spots.
Indianapolis right-hander Quinn Priester, 22, made a small jump by moving up three spots to 57.
The No. 1 prospect on the MLB Pipeline top 100 is High-A shortstop Jackson Holliday, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. Holliday is followed by Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz, Double-A outfielder Jackson Chourio (Milwaukee Brewers), Miami Marlins right-handed pitcher Eury Perez and Double-A shortstop Marcelo Mayer (Boston Red Sox).
