Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Mitch Keller looks to have dodged a bullet after he was hit in the right wrist by a line drive during the second inning of Tuesday night’s game against the Florida Marlins.
The Pirates said initial medical exams revealed Keller suffered a contusion. His status is day to day.
Keller caught a shot off the bat of Garrett Cooper to record the second out of the second inning, but left the game in obvious pain. He retired all five batters he faced, including three via strikeout. Clay Holmes replaced him.
Keller, 23, is the Pirates’ top prospect. He was making his eighth major league start of the season. He was named International League pitcher of the year for his work with Indianapolis.
