When Henry Davis took a foul ball off the face mask Friday night at Colorado, it proved to be worse than expected.

Not only was the Pittsburgh Pirates catcher removed from the game but he was placed the catcher on the seven-day concussion injured list before Saturday’s game against the Rockies.

The Pirates recalled Jason Delay from Triple-A Indianapolis to serve as the backup catcher. Yasmani Grandal, who replaced Davis in the seventh inning, started against the Rockies on Saturday night. Delay made the Opening Day roster and played in one game before undergoing surgery in April to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. Delay batted .194 with two doubles and five RBIs in 10 games at Indianapolis.
