A day after Rob Zastryzny allowed one run on one hit and two walks at St. Louis, the Pittsburgh Pirates placed the left-handed reliever on the 15-day injured list with left elbow discomfort.

Pirates senior vice president of baseball operations Bryan Stroh, filling in for the general manager on the Ben Cherington Show on 93.7 The Fan, said Zastryzny and first baseman/designated hitter Ji-Man Choi (strained left Achilles tendon) will see specialists Monday in Pittsburgh.

Zastryzny, 31, was the last player to make the Opening Day roster. He was 1-0 with a 7.94 ERA and 1.94 WHIP in 5 2/3 innings, striking out six while walking five with four scoreless outings in seven appearances.

The Pirates recalled right-hander Yohan Ramirez from Triple-A Indianapolis. Ramirez posted a 1.13 ERA and 0.88 WHIP with a .185 batting average against in eight innings over five appearances this season, and his 14 strikeouts were tied for the second most among relievers in the minors.

Ramirez, 27, was 3-1 with a 3.67 ERA and 1.30 WHIP, in 27 innings over 22 appearances for the Pirates last season after being acquired from Cleveland on July 8.
