Pirates place LHP Steven Brault on 60-day IL, claim reliever Enyel De Los Santos from Phillies
Steven Brault’s season is over for the Pittsburgh Pirates, who transferred the left-hander to the 60-day injured list Monday and claimed right-handed reliever Enyel De Los Santos off waivers from Philadelphia.
Brault (0-3, 5.86 ERA in seven starts) was removed after the second inning Friday against Washington after experiencing tightness. He was placed on the 10-day IL with a recurrence of the left lat strain that sidelined him from spring training until Aug. 4.
De Los Santos, 25, of Dominican Republic, was 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA and 1.714 WHIP and 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings in 26 appearances this season. He is 2-2 with a 6.21 ERA in 38 games over three seasons with the Phillies, including three starts, giving up 13 home runs.
After shuttling back and forth between the Phillies and the minors — he struck out 66 of the 154 batters faced (35.9%) at Triple-A Lehigh Valley — De Los Santos was designated for assignment Sunday.
