Less than a full day removed from tossing two innings in a blowout win over the New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Daulton Jefferies was placed on the injured list Saturday because of right elbow discomfort.

The right-handed Jefferies, 28, is 0-0 with a 6.30 ERA in four games since joining the Pirates in mid-June.

In a corresponding transaction, 29-year-old righty Ryder Ryan was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Ryan, who has been shuffled frequently between Indianapolis and Pittsburgh this season, is 1-0 with a 3.46 ERA over 11 games and 13 innings with the club, posting 14 strikeouts and seven walks.

With the Indians, Ryan has pitched 22 innings over 17 games with a 4.09 ERA.
