The Pittsburgh Pirates placed outfielder Ronny Simon on the 10-day injured list with a dislocated left shoulder and recalled infielder Cam Devanney before Saturday’s game at the Boston Red Sox.

Simon was serving as a pinch runner for Andrew McCutchen when he was injured during a head-first slide into home plate in the eighth inning of Friday’s 4-2 win.

Devanney, acquired from the Kansas City Royals for infielder/outfielder Adam Frazier on July 16, has batted .256 with six doubles, a triple, two home runs, 11 RBIs and 11 runs scored in 34 games with Triple-A Indianapolis.

The 28-year-old right-handed hitter is batting .266/.353/.493 with 20 doubles, three triples, 20 home runs and 66 RBIs in 103 games split between Indianapolis and Omaha this season.

This is the second time Devanney has been added to an active roster, but he did not appear in a game with the Royals so he has yet to make his major-league debut. Devanney could become the seventh Pirates rookie to make his debut this season, along with right-handed pitcher Thomas Harrington (April 1), middle infielder Tsung-Che Cheng (April 9), outfielder/first baseman Matt Gorski (April 24), right-hander Braxton Ashcraft (May 26), lefty Cam Sanders (Aug. 5) and righty Bubba Chandler (Aug. 22).

In other Pirates moves, left-handed pitcher Andrew Heaney cleared waivers and has been released, making him a free agent. There are now 39 players on the Pirates’ 40-man roster.
