Jhonny Severino
Position: Infielder
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 185 pounds
Level: Low-A Bradenton
Notable: In late July 2023, it was perfectly reasonable for Pittsburgh Pirates fans to wonder what the club was getting in teenage infield prospect Jhonny Severino, acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for first baseman Carlos Santana.
At the time, Severino was playing rookie ball with Milwaukee, and upon joining the Pirates organization, was assigned to the Florida Complex League, where he went on to hit .300 over 10 games.
Last year, Severino split time between the FCL Pirates and Low-A Bradenton, slashing .237/.285/.500 over 28 games with the Marauders.
Now 20, the 6-foot-2 infielder began 2025 with Bradenton. So far, he has struggled offensively, batting just .199 with a .260 on-base percentage.
However, Severino, who hit a combined 16 home runs in 2024 between the FCL Pirates and Bradenton, has managed eight homers with the Marauders this season, along with 34 RBIs.
Defensively, Severino has transitioned to more of a primary third baseman this year, starting 55 games there for the Marauders compared to 12 at second base.
Last year, his splits were 39 starts at third base and 33 at shortstop.
From June 24-July 12, Severino enjoyed a 12-game on-base streak, batting .263 (15 for 57) with two homers and nine RBIs.
