Anthony Solometo
Position: LHP
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 205 pounds
Level: Double-A
Notable: Anthony Solometo once looked to be on a similar track as fellow prospects Bubba Chandler, Braxton Ashcraft and Thomas Harrington, all of whom became viewed as the next wave of Pirates pitchers who would bolster the big-league rotation along with Paul Skenes and Jared Jones. Fast forward to July 2025, and Chandler is the club’s top prospect with an anticipated MLB debut likely looming, Ashcraft is thriving as a bulk reliever in the majors, and Harrington has also made his big-league debut, awaiting his next call-up at Triple-A Indianapolis. Solometo, now 22, remains at Double-A Altoona, however. He went a combined 4-7 with a 3.26 ERA in 2023 and got promoted to the Curve, but last year was a forgettable one for Solometo, who went 1-8 with a 5.37 ERA in 20 starts. After dealing with an early-season injury, Solometo, ultimately, was placed on the development list over the summer and had to work his way back up to Double-A. The 2025 campaign has been similarly unfortunate for Solometo, who endured a stint on the 60-day injured list (left shoulder) starting in May. Particularly disappointing was that he looked sharp in his two (and only) starts with Altoona before being injured, as he had back-to-back five-inning outings April 6 and 12, allowing one run and two hits, striking out seven with four walks. He is on a rehab assignment with the Bradenton Marauders. His first start at Low-A on June 18 did not go well, as Solometo lasted less than one inning, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits.
