Pirates prospect watch: Low-A OF Edward Florentino jumps to Pirates' No. 6 overall prospect

Notable: The Pirates’ Edward Florentino, an 18-year-old outfield prospect, jumped to No. 6 in MLB Pipeline’s most recent organizational rankings.
In late June, Florentino was promoted to the Bradenton Marauders after a strong rookie ball debut in the Florida Complex League, where he slashed .347/.442/.642 in 29 games and 86 at-bats.
Now at the Low-A level, Florentino has continued to swing a solid bat, hitting .279 with four homers and 18 RBIs through 25 games. He’s also stolen 16 bases and has a .402 on-base percentage with the Marauders.
In July, he’s hitting .300.
A native of Los Alcarrizos, Dominican Republic, Florentino turns 19 in October.
Defensively, Florentino primarily plays center field, with zero errors at the position through 254 innings there this season.
The Pirates have also given him reps at first base with the FCL club and Bradenton.
