Pirates put Colin Holderman on IL, call up Yerry De Los Santos
The Pirates will be without their primary setup man for at least the next 15 days.
The Pirates placed Colin Holderman on the injured list with right wrist inflammation, the team announced Thursday. Righty Yerry De Los Santos was called up in his place.
Holderman is 0-1 with a 4.01 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 24.2 innings this season. He has given up runs in three of his last four appearances, however, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits, including two home runs, in three innings during that span.
During the Pirates’ 10-6 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night, Holderman was tagged for three runs on four hits and a walk, recording only two outs.
This is De Los Santos’ second call-up of the season. He made one appearance during his previous MLB stint, getting two outs in a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on June 3.
De Los Santos is 0-5 with a 6.65 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 21.2 innings with Triple-A Indianapolis this season.
