Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Josh Fleming, designated for assignment on May 14, cleared waivers Saturday and accepted outright assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis, the Pirates announced.
Fleming, a 28-year-old lefty in his first season with the Pirates, was 1-1 with a 5.68 ERA in 17 appearances, recording 13 strikeouts and nine walks over 19 innings of work.
He was designated for assignment one day after a disastrous seventh inning against the Milwaukee Brewers in which he allowed five earned runs on six hits in an eventual 8-6 Pirates win.
Fleming spent four seasons from 2020-23 with the Tampa Bay Rays before the Philadelphia Phillies claimed him off waivers in November 2023.
The Pirates brought him aboard as a free agent this past February.
