Pirates select contract of RHP Osvaldo Bido, who will start Wednesday at Cubs
Plugging a hole in the starting rotation, the Pittsburgh Pirates selected the contract of 27-year-old righty Osvaldo Bido on Wednesday afternoon.
Bido is expected to start against the Cubs on Wednesday night in his major-league debut.
In 12 games with Triple-A Indianapolis this year, including 10 starts, Bido is 3-4 with a 4.55 ERA. In 55⅓ innings, he has struck out 56 and walked 26 with a WHIP of 1.30.
Bido, who will wear No. 70, spent the entirety of the 2022 campaign with Indianapolis, going 3-8 with a 4.53 ERA over 32 games (25 starts).
The recall was necessitated because of the season-ending elbow injury to Vince Velasquez and Roansy Contreras being moved back to the bullpen.
To make room on the 26-man active roster, the Pirates optioned outfielder Canaan Smith-Njigba back to Indianapolis.
