Pirates sign four minor league free agents
The Pirates have agreed to terms on minor league contracts with an infielder, an outfielder and two pitchers and given them non-roster invitations to spring training, the team announced Tuesday.
Right-handed pitcher Hector Noesi has the most big league experience, going 12-34 with a 5.51 ERA in 119 appearances with the Yankees, Mariners, Rangers, White Sox and Marlins, including 57 starts. Noesi, 24, was good in Triple-A last season, pitching for New Orleans and ranking first in the Pacific Coast Leaue with a 3.82 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and .240 opponents’ batting average. He was second in the league with 133 strikeouts and 11 wins.
Left-handed pitcher Miguel Del Pozo, 27, gave up 11 earned runs in 17 relief appearances with the Angels last season. He was 2-3 with a 4.99 ERA in Triple-A.
Outfielder Socrates Brito, 27, has hit .179 in 99 career games with the Diamondbacks and Blue Jays. A left-handed hitter, he hit .282 with 16 home runs in 97 games with Triple-A Buffalo last season.
Infielder Phillip Evans, 27, has hit .241 in 34 career big league games with the Mets. A right-handed batter, Evans hit .283 with 17 home runs and 50 extra-base hits for Triple-A Iowa last season.
