Pirates starter Steven Brault pitches to a Washington Nationals batter during the first inning Friday at PNC Park.

Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Steven Brault was removed after two innings from Friday night’s game because of left arm discomfort.

Facing the Washington Nationals in the opener of a three-game series at PNC Park, Brault allowed two runs and two hits. He walked two and struck out one.

Cody Ponce replaced Brault to begin the third inning.

Brault began the season on the injured list with a strained left lat muscle and did not make his 2021 debut until Aug. 4. He was making his seventh start Friday and entered with an 0-3 record and 4.56 ERA.
