Roberto Clemente Jr. speaks at the unveiling of a special marker at the former site of Three Rivers Stadium to commemorate the first all-minority lineup in MLB history Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and SportsNet Pittsburgh will air a Spanish-speaking broadcast to celebrate Roberto Clemente Day when the Bucs host the Cubs at 6:40 p.m. Monday.

“El día de Roberto Clemente: Los Piratas en español” will air on SNP+ and the SNP 360 app, honoring the legacy of the Pirates and Puerto Rican legend.

Clemente’s son, Roberto Clemente Jr., along with three-time All-Star and Puerto Rico native Carlos Baerga, will be part of the broadcast team.

“It is important to all involved that we continue to lead the way in ensuring Roberto’s legacy lives on for generations to come,” Pirates chairman Bob Nutting said in a statement. “It is very fitting that, as we honor The Great One’s legacy both on and off the field, his son, Roberto Jr., will be calling the action in their native language. It is a special moment for the organization, the Clemente family and the baseball community around the world.”

Clemente Jr. said in a news release that special guests will join the broadcast, including past Roberto Clemente Award winners, and that it will be a “celebration of heritage, community and the values my father stood for.”

“I am honored and extremely excited for this historic moment on Clemente Day. Bringing a Spanish broadcast of the Pittsburgh Pirates has been a vision of mine for many years, and on Sept. 15, that dream becomes reality,” Roberto Clemente Jr. said. “To broadcast Los Piratas en Español live from PNC Park is not only a milestone for me personally, but a meaningful celebration of this city and its fans.”

A traditional English-language broadcast will air on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Out of market, Major League Baseball will distribute the Spanish telecast via live streaming on MLB.com.

“Roberto Clemente’s contributions to the game of baseball transcend generations,” said David Wisnia, president and CEO of NESN and SportsNet Pittsburgh. “It is a privilege for SNP, the Pirates and MLB to come together to celebrate his life and legacy with this special Spanish-language telecast. We hope it provides an opportunity for fans to further experience the joy of Roberto Clemente Day.”

Also on Monday, the Pirates will take part in several events around Pittsburgh as part of their annual Roberto Clemente Day of Service, including a field renovation, a drive-through food distribution, visiting with families in need, assembling wellness kits and preparedness kits, and more.
