PNC Park is seen April 5, 2021.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will keep PNC Park attendance at 25% capacity for the first 12 games of the 2021 season, according to an official.

The official believed capacity could be increased for May games, but “nothing has been determined yet.”

As part of easing of some covid mitigation efforts that went into effect Sunday, Gov. Wolf increased occupancy for outdoor spaces, such as PNC Park, to 50% capacity.

The home opener Thursday vs. the Chicago Cubs is “sold out of available inventory,” said Brian Warecki, Pirates vice president of communications and broadcasting. If ticket holds for players and staff aren’t used, they will be made available “closer to the game,” Warecki said.

A note on the ticketing page for the home opener said the game was sold out, but “a limited number of additional seats may become available at a later date, you are encouraged to check back.”

Warecki said the Pirates expect to announce on-sale dates for future games and any change to current capacity limits in the next couple of weeks.

The first 12 home games of the Pirates season take the club into May, with the May 2 game vs. the St. Louis Cardinals being the last game with tickets currently on sale. Single-game tickets have yet to go on sale for games after May 2.

After May 2, the Pirates have two homestands that month, with the first from May 10 to May 16 with a series against the Cincinnati Reds followed by a series vs. the San Francisco Giants. The second homestand, from May 25-30, has the Pirates taking on the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies.
