The Pittsburgh Pirates traded catcher Tyler Heineman to the Toronto Blue Jays for infielder Vinny Capra on Sunday.

Heineman, who started 52 games for the Pirates last season and three this year, was designated for assignment Wednesday.

Heineman returns to Toronto, where he played 10 games for the Blue Jays last season before being claimed off waivers by the Pirates in May.

Capra, 26, is a 5-foot-8, 180-pounder who can play shortstop, third base and second base. He played in eight games for the Blue Jays last season, going 1 for 5 with a single, two walks and a strikeout.

Capra, a career .263 hitter with 20 home runs, 147 RBIs, 34 stolen bases and a .740 OPS in the minors, was assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis.

The Pirates also returned infielder Drew Maggi to Double-A Altoona after the second game of last night’s doubleheader, when the 33-year-old recorded his first major-league hit and RBI in the 16-1 win at the Washington Nationals.
