Pirates manager Clint Hurdle sits in the dugout before a baseball game against the Colorado Rockies in Pittsburgh, Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

Clint Hurdle confirmed Jordan Lyles would stay on turn in the Pittsburgh Pirates rotation and start Tuesday’s game at the Cincinnati Reds. And Chris Archer is starting Sunday’s home series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Beyond that?

Hurdle wasn’t saying — at least he wasn’t saying before Saturday’s game.

“We’ve got Lyles on Tuesday,” Hurdle said to reporters as he looked over some paperwork at his desk Saturday afternoon. “And we’ve got… Lyles on Tuesday. We will give you the rest later.”

Hurdle smiled.

“Just kinda how we are rolling right now.”

The Pirates need to do what's right by the major-league club, and that's promote top prospect Mitch Keller to the starting rotation. https://t.co/3KIHldEGCG

With Jameson Taillon and Trevor Williams on the injured list and Steven Brault and Nick Kingham struggling during their spot starts, the Pirates are searching for answers when it comes to their pitching staff. They used “openers” three times over the past week-plus.

Hurdle suggested more clarity could come after Saturday’s game, which started late because of the threat of rain showers in the area.
